Are water pipes and bongs the same thing?

Water pipes and bongs are the same thing. They are containers designed with a tube, bowl to hold legal herbs and a base to hold water. Historically, bongs have been used to smoke legal herbs and have a water filtration system to filter and cool down the smoke.

How does a bong work?

A bong usually consists of five parts:

  1. Body: The body/tube will be filled with smoke filtered through the water. Users can inhale the smoke from the mouthpiece.
  2. Base/Chamber: This is the bottom of the bong, which can be designed in different shape as a water chamber.
  3. Bowl: The bowl can be loaded with herbs. It is usually removable as a slide carb.
  4. Downstem: This small tube enables the smoke moves from the bowl to the base and be filtered by the water.
  5. Carb Hole: Certain bongs are equipped with a carb/shotty hole that is generally located on the rear of the bong, although sometimes they are situated on the side or front of the bong depending on the design.

Firstly, put water in the bong and make sure the bottom of downstem is completely submerged. Secondly, add your legal herbs into the cone/bowl. Avoid packing it too tightly to ensure it will be fully combusted. Then, place your mouth on the mouthpiece, light up the legal herbs and start inhaling the smoke.
